Sports Massage

Like the name suggests, sports massage is sport or activity specific bodywork that involves various techniques for the purpose of improving sports performance. It works in targeted areas to allow for better physical results, whether that's through improved mobility, increased flexibility, or decreased pain response. Sports massage uses a combination of myofascial release, joint mobilization, assisted stretching (see below), and massage techniques.

Assisted Stretching

In assisted stretching, the person receiving the stretch is manually assisted by another person into stretch positions. Force is applied by the therapist to enhance the stretch. This can involve both passive and active techniques, meaning the receiver can be completely relaxed or engaging specific muscles to further enhance the stretch.

Corrective Exercise

Corrective exercise is an approach to training that leverages an understanding of anatomy, kinesiology, and biomechanical analysis. It aims to address and fix movement compensations and imbalances, reducing the risk of injury and ultimately improving performance.

Biomechanical analysis, an in-depth analysis of the way someone moves, may also be employed to determine pain points and improve the overall quality of movement. Learn more about corrective exercise here.

Deep Tissue

Deep tissue doesn't have to mean painful. This massage technique works into deeper tissues of the body to thoroughly release tight muscles, flush out bad inflammation and muscle soreness, and reduce overall tension in the body. Done properly, deep tissue massage has a profoundly relaxing effect on both the tissues of the body and the central nervous system.
